LTI 1.3 integration for the leading LMS
Canvas by Instructure is the #1 LMS in North America with 35% market share. Aelira's LTI 1.3 integration embeds directly into Canvas, allowing faculty to scan course materials without leaving their familiar environment.
Scan all files uploaded to Canvas courses: PDFs, Word docs, PowerPoints, and more. Get compliance scores for each piece of content.
Check assignment instructions and rubrics for accessibility before students begin working. Ensure all learners can access the content.
Scan Canvas page content created with the Rich Content Editor. Identify heading structure issues, missing alt text, and color contrast problems.
Optional: Pass accessibility compliance scores back to Canvas gradebook for administrative tracking and faculty incentives.
Canvas admin adds Aelira as an external tool using our LTI 1.3 configuration URL. This takes about 5 minutes and requires developer key setup.
Faculty enable Aelira in their individual courses via Settings > Navigation. The tool appears in the course navigation menu.
Faculty can select specific files or entire modules to scan using LTI deep linking. Results appear directly within Canvas.
View scan results, download fixed files, and re-upload to Canvas. Track compliance progress over time with the faculty dashboard.
Common questions about integrating Canvas LMS with Aelira
LTI 1.3 requires Canvas institutional accounts. Free for Teachers does not support external LTI tools. You can still use Aelira's web dashboard by uploading files manually.
By default, Aelira is available only to instructors and TAs. Admins can configure access policies to include students for peer review or accessibility education purposes.
If enabled, Aelira creates a non-graded assignment in your course and passes compliance scores (0-100) for tracking purposes. This doesn't affect student grades.
You can use Aelira's web dashboard independently by downloading files from Canvas and uploading them manually. We also offer documentation to help convince IT of the security benefits.
