What Aelira Does Well (Our Strengths)
1. AI-Generated Working Code Fixes (Not Just Reports)
Our biggest differentiator: We don't just tell you "this image is missing alt text." We generate contextual alt text that you can approve or edit. Same for contrast fixes, heading structure, ARIA labels, etc.

A fully local configuration can keep document content within institution-controlled infrastructure. Verify configured providers, fallbacks, outbound network access, logs, caches, and backups before making a privacy commitment. SOC 2 certification and an independent assessment have not been established here.

Full Transparency: We're Not Perfect
We believe in honest reviews, even of ourselves. Here's what we're still working on:
1. LMS Coverage Beyond Canvas (In Progress)
Current state: The maintainer reports Canvas integration testing. A complete institutional journey has not been established here; validate permissions, scans, human review, and publication in your environment.
In progress: D2L Brightspace was tested on a developer instance but is not recently re-verified; Blackboard and Moodle integrations are experimental.
Workaround: Use bulk CLI processing to scan entire directories at once, then batch re-upload.
2. Brand Recognition (Newer Vendor)
Reality: YuJa and Ally have been around since 2016 and are used by hundreds of universities. Aelira is beta software with limited published institutional acceptance evidence.
What this means: You won't find as many case studies or peer references (yet). A bounded pilot can provide evidence against an agreed corpus before a production commitment.
3. SOC 2 Certification Not Established
Current state: SOC 2 certification and an independent assessment have not been established here. A roadmap is not evidence that an audit is underway. Review data flows, controls, and contracts with your institution.
If SOC 2 is a hard requirement, YuJa and Ally both publicly state SOC 2 compliance (verify current status with each vendor). We're catching up.
4. AI Fixes Require Review (Not 100% Automated)
Reality: Supported fixes are partial and human review is required before publishing. The time required depends on file complexity and the issues that remain open.
Why: AI can misinterpret image context or suggest suboptimal alt text. A reviewer must verify the meaning and test the result.
